Trench Rescue & Shoring

  • California State Fire Marshal Approved
  • Covers Technician Level Trench & Excavation Rescue Skills in NFPA 1670

This course is a 2-day, 16-hour course, which includes a full 12 hours of hands-on training. It is designed to provide the needed understanding of the inherent dangers that surround the many open trenches and excavations that can be found in any major urban or rural area. When responding to a cave-in or a trapped victim, rescuers need to know how to recognize, evaluate, and mitigate the dangers in order to design a plan that is safe for the victim, and for the rescuer. This course is excellent for employees in an industrial setting who may be exposed to open trenches and excavations and are in position to provide immediate rescue skills in an emergency. The course also provides the necessary skills and knowledge for fire service, public works, and other related public safety agencies that respond to trench rescues.

Skills Taught Include:

Rescuer safety; understanding OSHA regulations covering trenches and excavations; preplanning; assessing soil composition; cave-in evaluation; stabilization and shoring using wood, hydraulic and air shores.
