Caballo Mine Rescue Team and CMC Rescue, Inc.
The Caballo mine rescue team is a 40-person unit with specialized training in medical, fire, and rope rescue. We work at a surface coal mine which employs over 400 men & women and produces over 22 million tons of coal per year.
Although we are a paid response team, most of our members also volunteer their time with the local fire department or with the local ambulance service or as a Captain/Co-Captain.
Each year a select number of our members volunteer to participate on our annual competition team. The team is made up of 7 rescue members, 1 alternate, and 2 trainers. Each comp team member puts in an additional 80 hours of training over and above of the book work they put in on their own time.
Each year we attend 3 different competitions in Safety Olympiad in Elko (Nevada), Red Desert Trauma competition in Rock Springs (WY), and The International competition in Gillette (WY).
In the last 3 years we have increased our skills specific training and our trophies speak for themselves in going up against the best of the best:
Safety Olympiad in Elko, NV (Vs 8 teams per flight):
2009 - 3rd place in "A" flight
2008 - 2nd place in "B" flight
2007 - 1st place in "B" flight
International in Gillette, WY (Vs 12 teams):
2008 - 2nd place
2007 - 3rd place
Red Desert Trauma competition (Vs 4 - 6 teams):
2009 - 1st place
2008 - 3rd place
2007 - 2nd & 3rd place (2 teams)
We appreciate our management team for allowing us the time to train and attend these off-site competitions as well as providing our team with all the necessary clothing & gear.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank CMC for providing us with the highest quality gear to aid our rescue team.
Thanks,
Randy Milliron
